DR CHRISTOS G. PAPAKONSTANTINOU

Associate Professor (Lab Director)

Dr Papakonstantinou is Associate Professor of the Civil Engineering Department and director of the Lab. He holds a Civil Engineering diploma from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, a MSc degree from the University of South Carolina (USA), and a PhD from Rutgers University (USA).

His research interests include strengthening of reinforced concrete structures with composite materials, technology and performance of composite materials and reinforced concrete, and the use of recycling materials for the production of “green” concrete. Furthermore, he deals with the use of inorganic fireproof materials as matrix of composite materials.

He is member of ACI and ASCE and he has worked as Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (2003-2009), and as faculty of the Higher Colleges of Technology in Abu Dhabi, UAE(2012-2015). He has published more than 40 research articles in peer reviewed magazines and international conferences and has served as principal investigator in NSF funded research projects.

dr lampros n. koutas

Assistant Professor

Dr Koutas is an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Civil Engineering of The University of Thessaly. His qualifications include a Diploma (MEng equivalent) in Civil Engineering (2008), an MSc in Seismic Design of Structures (2010) and a PhD in Civil Engineering (2015), from The University of Patras (Greece).

In the past, he has worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the The University of Sheffield (2016-1017), and The University of Nottingham (2014-2016). He has extensively worked in projects related to the use of composite materials in retrofitting existing structures, and has built an expertise in the use of textile-fibre composites in structural and earthquake engineering applications. He has published more than 35 papers in International Journals and Conferences.

He is member of the fib Task Group 5.1 "FRP Reinforcement for Concrete Structures", and member of the RILEM MCC Committee on "Mechanical Characterization and Structural Design of Textile Reinforced Concrete". He is also member of the International Editorial Board of the ASCE Journal of Composites for Construction.

DR SZYMON CHOLOSTIAKOW

Marie-Curie Experienced Research Fellow

Dr Cholostiakow is a structural engineer, with a proven 9-year track record in solving complex engineering problems. He developed extensive research experience in experimental and numerical investigation of reinforced concrete and advanced composites for construction. His research interests lie broadly in the field of innovative and sustainable construction materials, structural rehabilitation of RC and masonry buildings, and earthquake engineering. He has vast experience in coordinating and executing large research projects including management, reporting, and academic publishing.

Currently, Szymon is leading a Marie Curie Fellowship at the University of Thessaly, Greece. The project aims to develop the new generation of sustainable textile-fibre composite reinforcements for structural-plus-energy retrofitting of substandard structures in seismic prone areas of Southern Europe.
